"The Origin of Love"
헤드윅 OST이다.

성전환 수술을 해서 여자가 된 한 남자의 이야기를 다룬 뮤지컬인데,

이 중에 나오는 노래중에 The Origin of Love는
무얼까... 일종의 동화로 절실한 사랑을 표현했는데,
왜 이 이야기가 나의 가슴속에 깊이 와닿아서 감동을 일으키는지 모르겠다.

옛날에는 두개의 사람이 붙은 모양의 생물이었는데
남남 남여 여여

신의 노여움을 사 두개로 갈라지면서, 두개의 성별을 가진(여,남) 생물로 바뀌었고, 그러고 나서는 다시 갈라지기 전으로 돌아가기 위해 필사적으로 짝을 찾아 부둥켜 않는다는 그런 내용이다.

남남이면 남자 동성애자가 될테고,
여여이면 여자 동성애자가 될테지.

일단 위와 같은 계산은 집어치우고, 우리가 하는 이 사랑들이
예전의 모습으로 돌아가기 위한 일종의 필사적인 몸부림이라고 하니,,

무언가 가슴속에서 느껴지는 것을 벅참이라 해야할지, 감동이라 해야할지, 슬프다고 해야할지...

사람들은 작은 나무통 처럼 이리저리 굴러다녔지.
그들은 두개의 팔과, 두개의 다리와, 두개의 같은 얼굴이 거대한 얼굴에 붙어있었어.
그래서, 그들은 주변을 모두 볼수 있었고, 말할때도 읽을수 있었지.

그리고, 그때 그들은 사랑이란 것을 알지 못했어.

이때는 사랑의 기원 이전의 이야기야...

One that looked like two men

그때는 세 가지의 성별이 있었어.
첫째성별은 두 남자가 등이 마주 붙은 것 처럼 생긴
태양의 아들들이었고,

And similar in shape and girth
Was the children of the Earth
They looked like two girls
Rolled up in one

그리고, 비슷하게 생겼지만 여자가 둘이 붙은것 과 같은
땅의 아들들이 있었고,

And the children of the moon
Looked like a fork shoved on a spoon
They was part sun, part Earth,
Part daughter, part son

그리고 마치 포크와 숟가락이 붙은것 처럼,
부분은 태양이고 부분은 땅인,
다시말해 부분은 여자고 부분은 남자인
달의 아들들이 있었지.

Now the gods grew quite scared
Of our strength and defiance
And Thor said,
“I’m gonna kill them all with my hammer
Like I killed the giants”

신들은 우리들의 힘과 도전에 아주 화가났고,
그래서 토르가 말했어.
"내가 거인을 죽였던것 처럼 나의 망치로 그들을 모두 죽일 것이다."

But Zeus said,
"No, You better let me
Use my lightning like scissors
Like I cut the legs off the whales
Dinosaurs into lizards.”

하지만 제우스가 말했지,
"아니네, 나에게 맡겨보게, 고래의 다리를 잘라버리고, 공룡을 도마뱀으로 잘라버린 것 처럼,
나의 번개로 그들을 잘라버리겠네"

And then he grabbed up some bolts
He let out a laugh
Said, “I’ll split them right down the middle
Gonna cut them right up in half.”
And the storm clouds gathered above
Into great balls of fire

그리고는 번개 몇개를 집어들고 크게 웃으면서 말했어.
" 그들을 가운데를 잘라 딱 반으로 나눠버리겠다 "

그리고 그때 폭풍우치는 먹구름들이 모여들고,
그 구름들은 큰 불덩이가 되었어.

And then fire shot down
From the sky in bolts
Like shining blades Of a knife
And it ripped Right through
the flesh Of the children of the sun
And the moon And the earth

그리고는 그 불들이 번개치는 구름에서 번쩍이며 번쩍이는 칼날처럼 떨어졌어.
그리고는 태양, 달, 땅의 아들들 정확히 반으로 찢어놓았지.


And some Indian god
Sewed the wound up to a hole
Pulled around to our bellies
To remind us of the price we pay

그리고 인도의 신은,
그 상처들을 꿰메어 배쪽으로 끌어모아서 구멍을 만들었어.
먼 훗날, 이 상처를 기억해 우리가 치른 죄값을 기억하라고.

And Osiris and the gods of the Nile
Gathered up a big storm
To blow a hurricane
To scatter us away In a flood of wind and rain
A sea of tidal waves
To wash us all away
If we don't behaveThey'll cut us down again
And we'll be hopping around on one foot
And looking through one eye 

그리고 오시리와 나일강의 신은
큰 폭풍우를 모아 허리케인을 만들어서 거대한 바람과 비, 그리고 거대한 조수로
우리를 모두 흩어놓았지.

그리고는 만약 우리가 또 다시 신의 말을 거역한다면,
다시한번 잘라서 그때는 한발로 뛰어다니고, 한개의 눈으로 세상을 보게 될것이라했지...

마지막으로 널 봤을때는,
우리가 막 둘로 찢겨지고 난 후였지.
너는 나를 보고있었고,

너는 뭔가 매우 친근했지만,
